Let the ereaders come and go. I am a long-time ebook fan and will continue to use them. I still have one of the original ereaders (Rocket eBook) and still love it. But, there's that proprietary format problem which limits content availability. So, in order to broaden my content availability I added a Tablet PC. On the tablet pc (Windows XP) I can rotate the screen for a portrait (slate) view and can use multiple ereader formats (Adobe, Sony, B&N, PDF, Zinio) so that I am not locked into only one format for purchasing books. Unless they come up with a reader that has the flexibility of the PC I won't be getting one.

Its doubtful that a glut of e-device failures will destroy the growth of the e-book market, unless every device uses its own version of proprietary DRM/store. I don't think the e-book industry could recover from the DRM fiascoes that plagued early adopters of music online.

Hopefully, one great thing will come of the increase in device competition: Amazon abandoning its proprietary DRM format. I have already written Amazon about my pre-order of a Nook and their decision has forever locked me out of purchasing another book from Amazon.
